Two days before the planned opening date of the Hard Rock Casino in Biloxi it was swept away by Hurricane Katrina. Like most of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, they set out to rebuild.
They’re almost finished rebuilding the hotel and casino, the new opening date is set for July 7th, 2005.
It looks like Biloxi is coming back strong although it’s not clear whether the Hard Rock will open with a poker room.
The last time I was in Las Vegas I kept notes in a little pocket notebook, intending to blog about everything later. Then the notebook went through the washing machine, those blog posts along with it.
I didn’t actually play that much poker, becuase I was in town with a non poker playing girlfirend. But I did play at Caeser’s Palace. Poker News has a post reviewing the Caeser’s room It reads almost like ad copy (well, not almost) but, even so, it’s a good summary of some of the features of the room.
I was pleased with my short experience in the room. I played in the early morning, the room had 4-5 games going, but the room is so large it looked like it was empty. I played in a short-handed 5/10 NLHE game, still going at 4 or 5 in the morning. They also had a full 1/2 (or maybe it was a 1/3) game going and a couple of low limit games. I had no complaints about the staff performance and even at that odd hour the cocktail service was pretty good. I don’t remember if you can order an espresso at the table, but I did find an all night espresso bar between the parking lot and the poker room, so I brought in espresso with me into the room and that made me happy enough.
Cherokee Casino in Tulsa has a two week series of poker tournaments coming up in May. The final event will be televised. I’m probably going to go.
Although I can’t stand sites that use a black background, Amy has a really good story on the possibility of an Indian reservation solution to funding online poker sites.
